Introduction to the Center for Social Security Studies of Wuhan University
Center for Social Security Studies of Wuhan University (abbreviation: CSSS) was founded in 1993. In 2000, the Center was approved as a key research base for Humanities and Social Sciences by the Ministry of Education. The center has two doctoral programs in Social security and public economic management, a postdoctoral research center in public management and the only national key discipline of social security in the country. At the same time, the social security discipline has also been included in the Tenth Five Year Plan and Project 211 construction project to be built. In 2004, the center became the second phase of the national 985 Project - Social Security Research and Innovation Base, which is the only national social security research and innovation platform. At present, the center has 75 researchers, 90% of whom have overseas study experience.The current director of the center is Professor Yunhua Xiang, and the deputy directors are Professor Qilin Zhang, Professor Zengwen Wang and Associate Professor Huiyuan Xue.
Since 2003, the center has undertaken more than 100 scientific research projects at or above the provincial and ministerial level, and more than 60 horizontal projects of various kinds, with a total fund of more than 40 million yuan. Over the years, the center has published more than 70 works and textbooks, and won more than 40 scientific research awards at the provincial and ministerial level. During this period, the researchers of the center published more than 1,700 academic papers and won more than 30 education and teaching achievement awards at provincial and ministerial level. In recent years, the Center has worked closely with government departments and submitted more than 200 advisory reports that have been adopted by government departments at all levels, many of which have been approved by national leaders. Every year, the Center cooperates with government departments to write the Report on China's Social Security Reform and Development, and jointly holds the results conference, which has received wide attention from the public, government departments, experts and scholars, and the media. In addition, the Center's researchers serve as consultants to various government departments, social organizations, and universities. By carrying out advisory and administrative services, the Center has improved its comprehensive research capabilities and its ability to participate in government decision-making, and has become a nationally renowned social security think tank and high-end think tank. In 2015, the center was rated excellent in the assessment of the Key research base of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education, ranking eighth in the country, among which the social service ability ranked sixth and the decision support ability ranked fifth. On the basis of being selected as the first batch of source think tanks in the "China Think Tank Index (CTTI)" in 2016, the Center was selected as a member unit of the "High-end University Think Tank Alliance" of the Ministry of Education in 2017 (31 in total). According to the "China University Think Tank Development Report (2017)" released by the Global Think Tank Research Center, the center ranks 41st overall among university think tanks in China. In 2018, the Center was selected into the Top 100 University Think Tanks list of the China Think Tank Index (CTTI), with A grade of A-. In the same year, the Report on China's Social Security Reform and Development 2012-2015, compiled by the Center, won the "Excellent Report Award" of the Chinese Think Tank Academic Achievements of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Evaluation. In 2022, the center successfully passed the evaluation work of the "13th Five-Year Plan" Key research base of Humanities and Social Sciences in universities organized by the Ministry of Education. In the same year, the center was selected as the first batch of research bases for the development of think tanks for the disabled in Hubei Province, and was once again selected in the China Think Tank Index (CTTI) Top 100 University think tanks list, rated as A+.
In addition, the center also hosts two academic journals: Social Security Research and Management Research (Collection), among which Social Security Research is the source journal of CSSCI extended edition.
The research direction of our center: pension insurance research, medical and health and work-related injury insurance research, employment and unemployment insurance research, social welfare and assistance research, pension service and medical care integration research, social security law research, social security fund management research, public economy and public policy research, health big data and security research, child development and security research, poverty research, etc.
