【Abstract】Based on the data of micro rural households in the 2014-2018 China Household Panel Survey (CFPS), on the basis of examining the current situation of income mobility and income inequality, using the kakwani individual relative deprivation index and the two-way fixed effect model of panel data to analyze the impact of income flow and social capital on the income inequality of rural residents in China, it can be found that the income inertia rate of rural residents in China shows a downward trend over time, but there are differences in income mobility among different income groups. Upward income mobility can significantly alleviate the income inequality of rural residents, while downward income mobility will exacerbate income inequality. The accumulation of social capital can effectively alleviate the income inequality caused by insufficient income mobility, which is manifested in the fact that the higher the level of social capital, the easier it is for rural residents to increase their income, and the lack of social capital can easily lead to insufficient income, which in turn exacerbates the income inequality of rural residents. In the context of rural revitalization and targeted poverty alleviation, enhancing the social capital of rural residents and preventing the downward flow of income of vulnerable groups have become the key to reducing income inequality.
