On the morning of September 18, the sub-forum of "Teaching and Learning Revolution" Luojia Forum School of Politics and Public Administration - "Training of Top Innovative Talents" exchange seminar for undergraduates of the Department of Public Economy and Social Security was successfully held in the conference room of the Social Security Research Center of Wuhan University. The meeting was chaired by Associate Professor Xue Huiyuan, Deputy Head of the Department of Public Economics and Social Security, Professor Wang Zengwen, Deputy Dean of the School of Political Science and Public Administration, Professor Xiang Yunhua, Director of the Center for Social Security Research, Professor Li Yunhua, Professor Yang Hongyan, Associate Professor Liu Webing, Associate Professor Zhang Ping, Associate Professor Liu Zhiying, Associate Professor Zhao Qing, Associate Professor Hong Li, Teacher Zhang Yun, Teacher Huang Ruting, Teacher Ma Xueyang and other teachers from the Department of Public Economics and Social Security, as well as some undergraduate students of Labor and Social Security majors in 2021 and 2019 (who are already studying in this major) attended the conference.
At the beginning of the meeting, Ms. Xue Huiyuan explained that the symposium was intended to encourage teachers and students in the department to speak freely from the actual situation of undergraduate education and teaching, and to offer suggestions for cultivating top innovative talents in the profession. The teachers and students put forward a lot of valuable suggestions on encouraging students to carry out innovation and entrepreneurship training and smooth the path of scientific research.
In terms of promoting students to participate in college students' innovation and entrepreneurship projects and cultivating the soil for innovation practice in the school, teacher Zhao Qing found that, "Although students of this major are very active in applying for big innovation projects, they are often weak in the later stage, with sloppy entries and lack of initiative in communicating with teachers." Teacher Liu Zhiying also agreed with the phenomenon of "restatement, lax implementation and conclusion" of the big creation project, and suggested that "internship projects closer to the profession can be launched, so that undergraduates can also participate in the good research and practice of teachers." Teacher Xiang Yunhua also proposed: "Teachers should take the initiative to create more opportunities for undergraduates to participate in relevant scientific research activities, and combine students' concerns with teachers' scientific research topics", and suggested that undergraduates participate in college innovation and entrepreneurship training projects, "can form teams across schools and disciplines."Teacher Zhang Ping pointed out that "the core of talent cultivation is teaching, and it is suggested to combine scientific research and practice activities such as Daichuang with teaching and combining with majors", and it is suggested that teachers and students strengthen communication, and teachers give students more clear guidance to Daichuang team, so that students can avoid detente.
At the same time, the teachers also put forward suggestions for the diversion of undergraduates and professional training. Teacher Zhang Yun proposed that the evaluation system of "top-notch talents" should be enriched, so that students with different career plans can be classified and cultivated. Liu Weibing pointed out that the concept of top innovation should be concretely developed, students should be trained in a free and open atmosphere, and students should pay attention to the training of concentration, that top talents should be "to learn excellence, have the endurance to walk the marathon, not fast, but fine and innovative". Huang Ruting suggested that students should be taught according to their aptitude, and "provide classified and specialized guidance to students who are interested in scientific research and employment." Teacher Hong Li proposed that excellent students in the profession could be tracked and cultivated.
The teachers also emphasized that training top-notch innovative talents should be based on professional characteristics and cultivate students' own character. Teacher Wang Zengwen believes that the growth path of students is clearly two dark lines, "the bright line is from learning to postgraduate examination or work, the dark line is from exercising their ability to solve problems, to improve understanding ability, thinking ability, and then to temper their own character", students should also lay a good foundation in the pursuit of bright line success. At the same time, it is necessary to "find the boundaries of disciplines, cultivate students' professional qualities, project them on specific posts, and practice professional values." Ma Xueyang also pointed out that the lack of motivation for students to participate in scientific research and innovation projects may come from the weak professional foundation, and students should be guided to improve their scientific research literacy. Li Yunhua pointed out that we can base on the history of the construction of this major and learn from the experience of cultivating outstanding students in the past. Teacher Xiang Yunhua also agreed that it should be "student-oriented and professional-oriented, and explore the unique path of cultivating top innovative talents in this major."
In addition, the teachers also suggested that in the Internet era, students should be guided to use smart phones, tablets and other electronic devices. Ms. Yang Hongyan found that some students' listening tool was only a mobile phone, and they were often distracted by other content in the phone. Zhang also agrees with this view, thinking that with the development of The Times, teachers need to accept greater challenges in how to concentrate students' attention in class.
The teachers finished their speech, and the students responded warmly. He Jiaxiang thinks that some undergraduate courses are repetitive, and suggests that the teaching content should be coordinated and reasonably divided in the course arrangement and teachers' collective lesson preparation. At the same time, He suggests introducing more practical courses and paying attention to the latest development of social security at home and abroad. On the other hand, Wu Jingyi believes that undergraduate study lacks training in quantitative methods and data analysis, which can promote students to improve their comprehensive ability across disciplines, and promote students to try cross-disciplinary learning and research. Liu Xiao agreed with the view that "the study of econometrics methods in the undergraduate period is insufficient", and also suggested that students enter the teacher's research group early for scientific research practice training. Sun Yuyin suggested that attention should be paid to the cultivation of students' future planning ability, and at the same time, the information sharing of scientific research training and internship practice in the hospital should be smooth. Liu Yanyun believes that the College can provide academic training to students who are interested in scientific research as early as possible, let students participate in scientific research practice step by step, and provide career guidance to students who are interested in employment.
Finally, Teacher Xue Huiyuan made a summary of the symposium and responded to the concerns of some teachers and students. In terms of innovation practice, Mr. Xue believes that undergraduates can also pay attention to the college's "Governance of China Certificate Program" while participating in the big innovation project, encourage students to participate in more professional internship practice, and dare to participate in the "Challenge Cup" national college students' extracurricular academic science and technology works competition. In addition, the 2023 undergraduate training program has added the "Social science thesis Writing guidance" course, which provides all-round guidance to students' graduation papers by writing academic papers and establishing undergraduate graduation thesis proposal system. At the same time, it is suggested to implement diversified teaching forms and course assessment methods, strengthen process management, improve the proportion of peacetime grades, implement course practice training, and invite staff of practical departments to enter the classroom.
The one-and-a-half hour symposium was successfully concluded in a warm atmosphere. Both teachers and students expressed their opinions, actively offered suggestions and suggestions, and contributed their own ideas on how to cultivate top innovative talents of labor and social security majors.
