On the morning of December 22, 2023, the fourth "Luojia Social Security Reading Club" was successfully held in the conference room of the Social Security Research Center. The book shared in this reading is the Beveridge Report - Social Insurance and Related Services. The meeting was chaired by Associate Professor Xue Huiyuan, Deputy director of the Social Security Research Center of Wuhan University, and led by Liu Yanyun, Li Anqi, Zhang Jingling and Sun Zihan, four master students majoring in social security. More than 20 graduate students from the center and outside participated in the reading.
At the beginning of the meeting, the moderator, Associate Professor Xue Huiyuan, gave a brief introduction to the Beveridge Report - Social Insurance and Related Services. Beveridge Report is an epoch-making work in the history of social security development, which has had an important impact on the construction and development of social security system in Britain, Europe and even the whole world. It has been more than 80 years since the book was published. In today's rapidly changing society, it still has important reference value for the construction of social security undertakings in our country, and is an indispensable learning material for students majoring in social security.
The book consists of six chapters: Introduction and introduction, main reform proposals and reasons, three special issues, Social Security Budget, Social Security Program, Social Security and Social Policy. The four students who led the reading division of labor and cooperation led the participants to familiarize themselves with the historical background, main content and ideas of the book in a simple way, and finally summarized the limitations of the book and the reference significance for today's social security system. The moderator, Associate Professor Xue Huiyuan, commented on each reader's speech, asked relevant questions, guided the participants to discuss, and encouraged them to read more classic works on social security.
The Luojia Social Security Reading Party not only allowed the participants to review the classic works, but also helped to cultivate the reading habit, critical thinking ability and inquiry spirit of the students of the Social Security Center, and laid a solid foundation for scientific research.
