[Cooperation and Exchange] Wuhan University and Nanjing Agricultural University Labor and Social Security First-class Undergraduate Professional Construction Exchange Forum Successfully Held

On November 9, 2023, Wuhan University and Nanjing Agricultural University successfully held a symposium on the construction of first-class undergraduate programs in Labor and Social security. The meeting was chaired by Associate Professor Xue Huiyuan, Deputy Head of the Department of Public Economics and Social Security and Deputy Director of the Social Security Research Center; Professor Li Fang, Department of Human Resources and Social Security of Nanjing Agricultural University; Associate Professor Lu Wanjun, Associate Professor Shen Suyan, Associate Professor Ji Lu, Department head; Professor Xiang Yunhua, Director of the Social Security Research Center of Wuhan University; Professor Wang Zengwen, Deputy Dean of the School of Politics and Public Administration and Deputy Director of the Social Security Research Center, and Professor Yang Hongyan, Associate Professor Liu Zhiying, Associate Professor Hong Li and Teacher Huang Ruting from the Department of Public Economics and Social Security attended the forum.

At the beginning of the meeting, Teacher Wang Zengwen first expressed a warm welcome to the arrival of Teacher Li Fang and his delegation, emphasizing that this meeting aims to communicate with each other in the form of inter-school dialogue, anchor the positioning of labor and social security major in the first-level discipline of public management, and find solutions for coordinating first-class undergraduate construction and talent training.

Then Mr. Lu Wanjun gave a panoramic introduction to the construction of labor and social security major in Nanjing Agricultural University. First of all, it starts with the ranking of the social security major of Nanfang University. Then, it introduces the achievements of the construction of the major from the aspects of theoretical teaching, competition participation, scientific research practice, brand activities and other aspects of undergraduate talent training. At the same time, it shares the team of tutors, research direction, learning requirements, learning arrangements and training goals of the major. And invite teachers from both sides to discuss together to explore the optimal way of social security professional construction.

After Lu's sharing, Xiang Yunhua went straight to the point. On the basis of sorting out the construction process and establishment status of the social security major, he pointed out that under the background of major enrollment, how to stimulate the attraction of the major to students is a realistic problem that must be faced in the construction of the social security major. Then, it discusses the important links of talent training such as professional distribution, course learning, internship and employment, and points out that among the many problems restricting professional development, the first is the problem of teachers. At present, the introduction of outstanding talents is restricted by various restrictions, and the promotion of young talents is restricted by the assessment mechanism, which affects the expansion of the teaching team. It is hoped that through this symposium, the communication channel of undergraduate professional construction experience between universities can be smooth, so as to make common progress and inspire each other.

Professor Xue Huiyuan then introduced the teachers of social security major in Wu University and shared the experience of attracting students to choose this major. First, teachers in the major can teach major platform courses before diversion, and attract students with professional and wonderful courses. Secondly, excellent and responsible teachers in the major can serve as class teachers of undergraduate freshmen, narrowing the distance between teachers and students; Finally, in the most critical professional dissemination link, not only teachers should pay attention to, but also invite senior students to introduce their experience, so as to effectively attract students. To solve the problem that the curriculum is not practical, the department can take the initiative to establish cooperation with local governments and build practice bases with the Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, the Civil Affairs Bureau, and the Medical Insurance Bureau. Some courses can be set up practical hours, the teacher can flexibly grasp, or guide the study to go into practice, or invite the staff of the practical department into the classroom.

Teacher Liu Zhiying talked about the fierce competition in talent training in recent years, and both teachers and students are lacking in the publicity of this major. It is pointed out that we should do a good job of publicity before the diversion, and pay attention to the reputation of students after the division of majors in order to attract excellent students. Yang Hongyan teacher agreed with Liu Zhiying's view, and pointed out that the enrollment of social security major is only limited to liberal arts students, some students may compare the difficulty of metrology and mathematical methods of learning between majors, thus affecting the choice of majors, and said that the whole profession should work together to pay attention to the construction of first-class courses within the profession.

Based on her own course teaching experience, Ms. Hong Li said that she could try to balance the difficulty of the course content and the interest of the course, and reduce students' psychological fear of mathematical learning in the major as far as possible on the basis of practical professional theories. Ms. Huang Ruting shared her new findings in the process of communicating with undergraduates. Nowadays, students will take multiple factors into consideration when choosing a major. The number of postgraduate positions, the difficulty and ease of courses, and the grade given by teachers will all affect students' major selection. Pay attention to students' concerns.

Teacher Xue Huiyuan took up the question from teacher Shen Suyan, introduced the characteristic achievements of the social security major in the phase inspection of the construction of first-class undergraduate majors, and put forward the hard indicators of the construction of first-class majors, such as the construction of teaching teams at provincial level and above, first-class courses, excellent textbooks, teaching achievement awards, teaching reform projects, and student discipline competitions, and comprehensively implement the construction of first-class majors.

Teacher Ji Lu put forward her own confusion on the problem of "difficult to enter people", and invited teachers to discuss how to highlight the advantages in each specialty, attract talents, and expand the teaching staff in the specialty. Xue Huiyuan teacher believes that can improve the initiative, meet outstanding talents take the initiative to attack; Teacher Yang Hongyan also said that we can consciously cultivate outstanding talents, and welcome graduates to return to their Alma mater after further study.

In the free exchange session, teachers from both sides had a heated discussion on professional enrollment, personnel training program revision, practical teaching arrangement and other issues. The symposium was a complete success and both sides gained a lot from it.
